Celebrating Pleasant View Rededication with Tree Planting

Merikay was invited to host a tent/table for the public to learn about native plants at Pleasant View as we celebrate the completion of the renovations of the historic colored school and church along with a new community center. To mark the event Merikay bought 3 native river birch to be planted at Pleasant View. Several young men at the event volunteered to do the planting and look forward to returning to the site in future years to see how “their” trees grow. When we planted the original native plant garden in 2017 we planted 30+ trees which are now looking great. Check out past events at Pleasant View on our website — and learn more about the history of the site as well.

Compare the photo of a river birch we planted in 2017 with the trees we planted June 20, 2026. Also shown are Senator Chris Van Hollen who was a speaker as well as WWII veteran and PV Trustee, Tompkins Hallman, and Rev. Gerry Green with his wife and daughter presenting awards. The garden looked great for the event with lots of pollinators visiting the various milkweed plants and other blooms.
